Welcome to the first Movie Watch !

Wow ! It's a new feature here on Caernarfon Online.

After a lifetime spent in dark rooms in front of a glowing screen, my good friend Gareth Edwards hatched a brainwave to give me a platform here to talk about films. So, when I’m not writing articles as head writer for GoreZone magazine, or contribiting to any one of several film websites - I’ll be right here. This is the Movie Watch and here is where you’ll find news, views and reviews of everything film related.

So, what can you expect over the next weeks, months and maybe even years ? I’ll be taking a look at some of the new releases both in the cinema and on DVD. I’ll be taking a look back at some old classics. You’ll also find some tasty news from Hollywood making its way over to this page, so please check back often for updates.

If you have any suggestions for any upcoming articles or features - drop me a line and I’ll see what I can do.

The summer blockbuster season may be over for another year, but that doesn't mean that there's nothing to look forward to. One of the most eagerly anticipated films ever is James Cameron's "Avatar" which is released world-wide over Christmas. This is the one we'll all be queuing up to see, as the publicity machine hits high gear with promises of special effects like we've never seen before. The trailer is currently doing the rounds, both online and in cinemas, have a look at it on this link, which'll take you to the official website for the movie: http://www2.avatarmovie.com/

I may have to eat my words, but to me it looks a bit like "Starship Troopers" mixed with live action "Thundercats". I'm curious, but also slightly underwhelmed.

Another upcoming release that keeps getting pushed back is "The Wolfman" the remake of the 1941 classic. The trailer has now been released and it's definitely one to look out for. See what you make of this. . Is it me, or does star Benico Del Toro look like he could be a werewolf in real life ? I'm looking forward to this one - it's release date at the moment is February 12, just in time for St Valentines for the romantics among you.

Let's move on to some very cool news.

What if I said that there was a film in pre-production where the U.S. Government is involved in experiments to create a genetically enhanced super soldier, and (naturally) things go wrong so a specialist is brought in to hunt down the perfect killing machine ? Like me, I’m sure you feel that you’ve read or seen this plot before, and it all sounds like a "Predator" rip-off.
But - this is the plot of Rambo V: The Savage Hunt. Yes, they really are bringing Sylvester Stallone back again, for one more final mission.

Here’s the poster that was unveiled at the Toronto Film festival this past week.

One more bit of news to close this first blog, guaranteed to raise a smile on film fans world wide. The poster says it all....and yes, Johnny Depp WILL be back.
